I Had the Strangest Dream Last Night (2016)

i-had-the-strangest-dream-last-night-2016-creepy-clown

I Had The Strangest Dream Last Night is a 2016 American adult film from Brazzers that features a creepy clown.

The company suggests that the film contains “the most horrifying clown scene ever featured on the site” – a statement that suggests there are more out there. And certainly, the trailer gives most horror movies a run for their money when it comes to out and out creepiness.

Veruca James stars as a woman having a nightmare in which her massage appointment goes horribly wrong, with her masseur turning out to be a clown who “eats the dreams of men” (feeling turned on yet?). She has to try to wake up before the clown swallows her soul…

veruca-james-i-had-the-strangest-dream-last-night-2016-movie

Certainly a film with its finger on the pulse of current moral panics – creepy clowns being the current cause of hysteria in the USA and UK – it must be said that the film looks pretty amazing. It doesn’t look remotely erotic of course, but maybe that wasn’t the idea. After all, the frissons of fear and arousal are not that far away from each other.

The trailer below contains no nudity, so is probably safe for work if you employers don’t mind you watching bad trip clown movies at your desk).

Main cast:

Tara Moates, Trevor Moates, John Nieman, Ryan Gray, Jadyne Dimond, Mike Lester, Kyle Clark, Kerissa Porte and Randy Porte.

Plot:

A brother and sister try to uncover the mystery of an old abandoned carnival attraction and the maniac that supposedly thrives within…

Reviews:

” …the film does have some brutal kills but most are taken off camera where they lose their effectiveness. The special effects are not that great either but the camera tricks helped cover them up. With all that being said, the cinematography is beautiful … Overall, Loon is a valiant shot as the slasher but does fall short. Though the film is flawed it does deserve at least one shot.” Blacktooth, Horror Society

“The unoriginal screenplay is the least worst thing about Loon. The cast are universally bad with Tara Moates being the only stand out and only because she’s very cute looking but thespian wise she also gives the same sort of painfully distracting wooden performances where no matter what happens to who they sound as they’re reading out a shopping list . On top of that we’ve got completely static camera work and disjointed editing on both a visual and audio level.” Theo Robertson, IMDb

” …a modern-day entry into the teens, trees and terror genre, that effectively encompasses the spirit of its celebrated (and less celebrated) forebears, warts and all. It brings fun, blood and a nightmarish new boogeyman, along with a kickass soundtrack and some modern twists to the tale to keep you on your toes.” Hickey’s House of Horrors

Screen Shot 2016-08-18 at 20.49.20Sorority Slaughterhouse is a 2016 American comedy horror film producer and directed by David DeCoteau (Creepozoids; Ancient Evil: Scream of the Mummy; Evil Exhumed) from a screenplay by Rolfe Kanefsky (Megafoot; The Killer Eye) for Rapid Heart Pictures. The musical score was composed by Harry Manfredini (Friday the 13th, 1980)

In March 2016, David DeCoteau told Fangoria:

“After years of directing little-creature movies, I thought I would direct a killer-doll film where the doll actually spoke. I wanted the movie to be a combination of horror and comedy, so I contacted Rolfe Kanefsky, who wrote and directed the hilarious There’s Nothing Out There, and asked him if he wanted to tackle this assignment. Rolfe loves the genre and loves comedy, and wrote a hilarious, sexy horror/comedy…”

Main cast:

Eric Roberts (Camp Dread; Amityville Death House; Self Storage), Jessica Morris (Crabs!; American Exorcism; Reel Evil), Jean Louise O’Sullivan (Trophy Heads; Gingerdead Man 3), Kelli Seymour (666: Teen Warlock), Anthony Caravella, Brianna Joy Chomer (Zoombies), Vince Hill-Bedford, Alexia Quinn.

SORORITY-SLAUGHTERHOUSE-2016Plot:

After a sorority girl breaks up with him, Mr. Whitman, the headmaster of the college, takes his own life. But what should be the end becomes only the beginning due to a magical, evil twelve-inch clown doll named Bobo that gets possessed by the soul of Mr. Whitman.

Now, in the body of Bobo, Mr. Whitman can get revenge on all the people who wronged him, especially the hottest girls of the Delpha Pi sorority…

sorority-slaughterhouse-2016-sheer-dress

Reviews:

“It has a decent body count, coming in with seven on screen deaths, but they were just… stupid. Sorority Slaughterhouse could have been a real slaughter yet the team behind the movie decided to make it over the top campy and sexual and a comedy instead of a horror film. If they only changed the tone!” Horror Society

“The film is a cousin to the Puppet Master series, but with tongue firmly in cheek. As with films of this type, it either hits you in the right spot or not. But it definitely hit me in the right spot. I laughed consistently while watching the “effects” (basically, Bobo stands there still or a hand just off camera makes him bounce up and down) while Eric Roberts voices the clown…” ST Singer, IMDb

Choice dialogue:

“Ugh, get that away! I hate clowns!”

“We should have never let you join our sorority! You are a sexual predator!”

Opening plot:

Nikki, a young woman that recently downloaded Mr. Bedevil, a mysterious Siri-like A.I. app, is stalked by a paranormal presence and is later found dead from a shock-induced heart attack.

Following her funeral, Nikki’s boyfriend, Cody, and best friend, Alice, along with Alice’s boyfriend, Gavin, and friends, Haley and Dan, all receive invites to download Mr. Bedevil. They subsequently discover brands on their bodies in the shape of Mr. Bedevil’s app icon and eventually accept that the app is intent on killing them…

bedeviled-2016-horror-movie-app-clown

Reviews:

“What we have here is a charming, albeit occasionally predictable, character-driven horror movie with a splash of modern sensibilities. While some of the scenes involving the titular app’s capabilities may seem cheesy at first, especially with how gullible the teens seem to be, there are still some honest scares to be had with the film.” Luiz H.C., Bloody Disgusting

Bedeviled is basically a poor man’s Nightmare on Elm Street. Describing it as by-the-book isn’t quite right as it never turns past the first page of being pat, predictable, and pedestrian in every sense as a supernatural slasher.  About the best that can be said of Bedeviled is that it is “eh, ok” for a SyFy Saturday matinee.” Culture Crypt

Theatre of Fear aka The Midnight Horror Show is a 2014 British horror film written, produced and directed by Andrew Jones. The North Bank Entertainment production stars Jared Morgan, Lee Bane and Nathan Head.

The Moreau family travel around the UK putting on an underground variety show for an adult audience. But behind the curtain there is something more sinister going on than simple entertainment…

Reviews:

“…everything in Theatre of Fear is eyebrow-raisingly bold and character orientated. It’s this element that pulls you in as a genre feature of late has been the anodyne nature of the characters involved, but with Jones’ piece here it’s the total opposite. They’re all genuinely fascinating albeit grimly immoral people who engage you and keep you hooked with their litany of foibles.” Dave Wain, UK Horror Scene

“The film’s plot is thin and spread out across events in short, somewhat unnoticeable bursts and the characters themselves have stock horror-film-slasher personalities as far as their personal problems are concerned yet what shines through in the end is how the family relates to one another and how despite the horrible things they do and the choices they make somehow they still seem like relatable and understandable characters.” Ben French, HorrorNews.net

“On the acting side, I enjoyed Lee Bane as Janus and the strangely adorable Trinculo, though I felt the rest of the cast and story itself, fell flat. I found myself just wanting to see more of the two brothers characters. Once Duke comes in, it’s over as things were just picking up. If deranged families are your thing, you might enjoy the Theatre of Fear […] this one is probably just left for a boring, rainy day.” Nicola Odeku, Wicked Horror

” …if you want to bypass dialogue, slow spots, and very little violence, you’ll be watching a 25-minute movie. I’ll give points for atmosphere and a spattering of blood from time to time, but this “midnight horror” that is spoken of better feels like something you’d catch during the afternoon hours – save yourself and grab a 75-minute nap instead.” Matt Boiselle, Dread Central

“A ventriloquist puppet is a decent idea for a possible creepy villain in a horror or a sidekick to a villain but in Theatre of Fear it just doesn’t work […] As the film continues it’s clear the script and dialogue is poor. A few good death scenes might liven up this type of film but there’s no highlight death scenes here at all.” Alain Elliot, Wight Blood

“Really just a poor man’s The Devil’s Rejects as the plot mimics aforementioned film, deranged murderous family are tracked down by deranged murderous avenger. This is a competent film that is let down by it’s low budget origins. And as with every horror film made nowadays, everything is in place for a hoped for sequel.” Zeppo 2, IMDb

‘They owned the streets… until now!’

Gangsters, Guns and Zombies is a 2012 British comedy horror film written and directed by Matt Mitchell (The Rizen and sequel; It Never Sleeps) from a screenplay co-written with Taliesyn Mitchell. The LMV production stars Vincent Jerome, Huggy Leaver, Fabrizio Santino.

Official synopsis:

The whole “zombie thing” has been hyped up so much that everyone thinks it’s the end of the world! Of course, where one man sees the dead rising from the grave, another sees opportunity. Q had a plan: drive the robbery getaway van, deliver everyone to the safe house and get paid – a nice, simple, plan.

Unfortunately, this is the first time Q has been a getaway driver. He’s coping pretty well though, considering; Tony (the guy who is ‘in charge’ of the job) is a murderous nut case, Danny was shot and is now bleeding all over the money in the back of the van, the Sat-Nav has a mind of its own, there’s a guy in the back living up to his name “Crazy Steve”, the safe-house already has police at it, and this whole “zombie thing” seems to be quickly becoming more of a “zombie apocalypse thing”.

Luckily, Tony knows of another Safe House on the coast. Not so luckily, Danny dies of natural-ish causes and then rises from the grave…

Reviews:

” The whole approach to the film’s horrific action is done in a mild-mannered or tongue-in-cheek way but the filmmakers ensure the horror crowd are pleased with lots of blood squirting and spraying over everywhere.” Bat, Horror Cult Films

” …I was less than enthused at the prospect of Gangsters, Guns & Zombies. But to its credit, the film is frequently imaginative, occasionally fun and always action-packed.” Joel Harley, Horror Talk

“Cleverly, the first act of the movie is played out predominantly in the van as the gangsters escape, with the madness going on outside in miniature zombie movie vignettes, some of which are somewhat scary and some of which are frankly hilarious.” Love Horror

” …a terrific horror film, a very funny comedy and not at all annoying in the way most geezer gangster pictures are.” MJ Simpson, Cult films and the people who make them

“In terms of horror, the film is never scary and seldom tense. But Alexandra Vlcek’s splattery FX work is kept busy during the film’s first half (oddly, the pace slows during the latter half), ensuring gore fans are well catered for with lots of practical bitings and shootings.” Stuart Willis, Sex Gore Mutants

” …this is a film that looks good and is put together with a definite technical craft and understanding of film. It is not a group of miscreants with a camcorder trying to give us motion sickness, instead there are fluid camera shots, an editor that knows what they are doing and all in all a very professional feel to the film.” The Lair of Filth
